“best Small development”

a listed fire station conversion in Victoria, SW1

on the border of St James’s, behind Victoria Street, a vacant Edwardian fire station was restored and redeveloped into award-winning Grade II listed homes. Studio L London acted as Creative Director for the conversion.

For the launch, Studio L was commissioned to design one-of-a-kind interiors for three residences. This particular apartment—the only one set within the original, characterful fire station—received an interior best described as “Granny Chic,” brought to life through a compelling literary narrative. The central creative question was:

What if the famed “Sex and the City” writer Carrie Bradshaw moved to London, seeking a home that fused English countryside charm with the intellectual bohemia of the iconic Bloomsbury Group?

  • This whimsical yet sophisticated premise guided a design rich in texture and eclectic personality. The space layers dimensional materials with a masterful mix of quirky one-off vintage finds, family heirlooms, and creatively upcycled pieces. Throughout, nature motifs nod to the English countryside, alongside subtle references to the client’s Far Eastern heritage.

Anchored by Studio L's bespoke furniture and custom rugs, the home feels simultaneously cosy, sophisticated, and brimming with character. The result is a deeply personal, perfectly unique place to call home.
