“best Small Space”

A stylish Notting Hill Pied-à-Terre, w2

For this full turnkey restoration and renovation of a Grade II listed Victorian apartment, the client's brief was clear: restore the home's character, enhance its three-metre high ceilings, allow space for small dinner parties, maximise storage unobtrusively, and make it modern and energy efficient.

The aesthetic: an elegant, serene home with a neutral base and pops of colour for a unique “Notting Hill touch”—under one explicit directive: “no vintage, please.”

This project went on to win the Homes & Gardens “Best Small Space” Award 2025, recognised for its refined small-space interior design approach.

  • How We DID It: The Power of Scale

To achieve this within the compact footprint, we drew on design legend Michael Taylor’s philosophy of 'oversized, anthropomorphic furniture' for small spaces. His theory—that key pieces in the correct larger scale actually enhance small spaces—proved true here. This counterintuitive approach created a sense of presence and perfect proportion, making the room feel grander and more intentional.

The result is a home that feels airy and stylishly graceful, a reflection of its owner's sophisticated presence. And in a delightful twist? We wound up blending in about 60% vintage and antique by the end.
