about

Studio L

OUR Approach

Studio L London creates evocative, narrative-led interiors with character, atmosphere and a deep understanding of how people live.

The studio’s approach is rooted in holistic thinking, where concept, identity, budget, procurement and delivery are considered together rather than in silos. This creates homes with clear design and functional integrity, ensuring they feel deeply personal, work beautifully and age well over time.

Every project is led personally by Laura Marino, from the first conversation through to the final detail. Her role is both creative and practical: helping clients get clear, move forward with confidence and transform their property into a home with depth, individuality and lasting value.

LAURA’s story

Laura’s career is built on the belief that exceptional design and commercial intelligence belong together.

Before founding Studio L London, she was co-founder and Creative Director of Alchemi Group, where she helped build a boutique residential development portfolio of more than £1bn in assets. The work focused on design-led homes, complex retrofits, listed buildings and overlooked properties with the potential to become something distinctive.

Those showcase homes began attracting private clients who wanted the same depth of character, colour and considered detail for their own homes. Studio L London was founded in 2016 as a dedicated residential interiors practice.

Studio L is a BIID Registered Interior Designer®, on House & Garden’s The List and winner of Homes & Gardens Best Small Space 2025. The studio works with private clients across London, the UK and internationally.

  • At Alchemi, I worked across the full lifecycle of residential development — from concept creation, interior design and specification through to procurement budgeting, commercial positioning, marketing strategy and final delivery.

That experience taught me how to protect a design idea as it moves through architects, quantity surveyors, consultants, contractors and site realities. It also shaped the way I work with private clients today: creatively, but with a clear understanding of how decisions affect cost, sequence, value and the finished result.

For Studio L, this means interiors that are expressive, highly individual and richly layered, while remaining practical, buildable and thoughtfully considered for daily life and long-term asset value.

SUSTAINABILITY

Sustainability has always been part of how I design.

My first instinct is to seek restore, enhance or modernise the homes inherent character and original features.

That practice began at Alchemi, where retrofit, reuse and the careful restoration of existing and listed buildings shaped our design process.

At Studio L, it continues through practical decisions: upcycling existing pieces, specifying local and healthier materials where possible, and helping clients make choices that support how they live, their wellbeing and the long-term value of their home.

The goal is always an interior designed to be lived in and loved for decades, not just for the moment.

Philosophy

Interiors profoundly influence how we feel, live and experience daily life.

Every project begins with a thorough understanding of the client, their routines and the way they want to feel at home. From there, function and materiality are brought together to create an aesthetic with soul: distinctive, practical and deeply personal.

The mission is to create a home that brings lasting joy and pride of place.

“Laura's interiors are gorgeous and I could move into them tomorrow.”
