about

Studio L

OUR Approach

Studio L London designs characterful, narrative-led interiors that create atmosphere, delight and, ultimately, feel good to be in. The studio deliberately avoids a house style, preferring to draw out each client’s own taste and translate it into something individual, coherent and unmistakably theirs.

We look at each project holistically — from concept and spatial planning through specification, procurement and delivery — so creative decisions work together rather than in isolation.

From period and listed homes to contemporary renovations, the aim is always the same: to create a home that feels distinctly yours and brings lasting satisfaction and joy.

LAURA’s story

Laura Marino’s route to Studio L London began in residential development, where great design and commercial thinking were inseparable.

Before Studio L, Laura co-founded Alchemi Group and served as its Creative Director. The company managed a residential property portfolio valued at over £1 billion at its peak. Laura conceptualised each project and oversaw placemaking and marketing strategies. She selected architects and much of the wider project team and designed and procured interiors across their developments.

Most of their portfolio included listed building restorations, complex retrofits, and properties whose character had to be rediscovered rather than imposed.

Upon market launch, Laura’s bespoke showcase homes began attracting private clients. Drawn to their refreshing individuality, Laura was being asked to bring the same conceptual rigour and meticulous curation of colour, texture and detail to their own homes. From there, Studio L London was founded in 2016 as a dedicated residential interiors practice.

Studio L is a BIID Registered Interior Designer®, a member of House & Garden’s The List and winner of Homes & Gardens’ Best Small Space 2025. The studio works with private clients across London, the UK and internationally.

SUSTAINABILITY

Sustainability has always been part of how Laura designs.

Her first instinct is to restore, enhance or modernise a home’s inherent character and original features.

That practice began at Alchemi, where retrofit, reuse and the careful restoration of existing and listed buildings shaped her design process.

At Studio L, it continues through practical decisions: upcycling existing pieces, specifying local and healthier materials where possible, and helping clients choose options that support how they live, their wellbeing, and the long-term value of their home.

The goal is always an interior designed to be lived in and loved for decades, not just for the moment.

“Laura's interiors are gorgeous and I could move into them tomorrow.”
