farmhouse in the city

“BEST SMALL DEVELOPMENT”
A listed fire station conversion in Victoria, SW1
Studio L London acted as Creative Director for the restoration and residential conversion of this landmark Edwardian building, guiding the project from architectural concept through to interior specification.
For the launch, Studio L created three bespoke show homes. This apartment, located within the original station building, was conceived around a single narrative idea: “what if Carrie Bradshaw moved to London and wanted the feel of the English countryside while living in the city?” The result combines countryside character, Bloomsbury-inspired eclecticism and subtle references to the client’s Far Eastern heritage.
-
This whimsical but sophisticated “Granny Chic” premise guided a design rich in texture, colour and eclectic personality.
The apartment layers dimensional materials with quirky one-off vintage finds, family heirlooms and creatively upcycled pieces. Nature motifs nod to the English countryside, while subtle references to the client’s Far Eastern heritage give the home a more personal rhythm.
Anchored by Studio L London’s bespoke furniture and custom rugs, the home felt cosy, sophisticated and full of character and collected over time.
“It really feels like a home in the Cotswolds or somewhere in the countryside. Once inside, you would never know you were in the heart of central London”
