GLOBAL TRAVELLER

This 1,800 ft2 two-bedroom lateral apartment in the heart of Victoria was transformed into an edgy, urban loft filled with cultural references from exotic places all over the globe. From New York, to Morocco to Sri Lanka, all aspects of the interiors from the tiling down to the wallpaper vocalise the influences in a carefully curated, harmonious fashion. Vintage furniture pieces from mid- century by Corbusier, Akari and Jorgen mixed with bespoke contemporary pieces are used to familiarise the space, striving for a cozy yet seductive New York vibe.

A vintage Norell safari chair sits alongside primitive drum tables,  juxtaposed against highly stylised furniture pieces such as; Niels Jørgen string chairs and iconic European pieces such as the LC6 dining table and Atollo lamps. Textures like linen, mohair and woven silk ground the space giving it a luxurious yet casual feel.

Laura referred to her experience living in New York City when designing the bathroom. She once lived in a loft in a converted plastic factory and the bathroom was colourful and classic. The studio hunted high and low to get the right shade of teal and the brass fixtures served to amplify the beautiful colour.

The unusual wallcovering is inspired by Sri Lanka, the custom bedding from France and the cloisonné enamelled lamps from China.  The master bedroom and windows were oversized that they could handle the many different cultural references in one room and things were kept decidedly contemporary with the bespoke leather headboard as the anchor.
