Studio L London Wins Best Small Space in Homes & Gardens Design Awards 2025
I’m absolutely thrilled to share that Studio L London’s Grade II-listed Notting Hill pied-à-terre — a project we titled Bijou Beauty — has been awarded “Best Small Space” in the Homes & Gardens UK Design Awards 2025 (featured in the November print issue).
This project was a true pleasure — a collaborative client, a creative brief, and an outcome we’re incredibly proud of.
A Compact Space with Grand Ambition
This 476 sq ft apartment, overlooking one of Notting Hill’s most beautiful garden squares, had been stripped back to the studs when we arrived on the scene — giving us the freedom to rework the layout and respond to a surprisingly big brief for such a petite home!
The challenge:
Design a home that felt expansive yet intimate, heritage-driven but modern, with enough flexibility to entertain 4–6 guests comfortably. The client also wanted better thermal and acoustic performance, maximised storage, and an improved EPC rating — all within the constraints of a listed building and English Heritage regulations.
By layering in period detailing with a modern colour palette, decor and styling, the interior was traditional yet freshly modern — a hallmark of our approach in general.
A Celebration of Modern Heritage
Winning “Best Small Space” is an honour we’re immensely proud of. Homes & Gardens described the project as “an elegant, contemporary bijou apartment filled with restored original details, with ample storage space concealed throughout.”
The award recognises innovation in compact living — a design philosophy that defines many of our projects across London’s period homes. Whether reconfiguring a Georgian townhouse or transforming a Victorian flat, our goal remains the same: to create homes that feel generous, purposeful, and deeply personal.
Why Small Spaces Matter
In cities like London, thoughtful design for smaller footprints is more relevant than ever. The Notting Hill pied-à-terre demonstrates how smart spatial planning, bespoke joinery, and sensitive restoration can turn constraints into creative opportunity.
Our work proves that luxury isn’t about size — it’s about intention.
