BRITISH COLONIAL

architecture, interior decoration, interior design

This three-bedroom apartment was conceptualised after being inspired by the movie ‘Out of Africa’ and leafing through a Slim Aaron's book. A blush filter took the lead and a decidedly feminine and elegant interior was revealed. The result was a modernised and slightly more formal twist on the popular British Colonial style.

Studio L collaborated with TateHindle on the interior architecture and floorplans. Alchemi Group was the developer.  The kitchen was shortlisted by the International Design and Architecture Awards for; "Kitchen Design Over £50,000".

Quiet elegance and luxurious comfort was the aim when decorating the three-bedroom lateral apartment. The ceiling was covered in a light iridescent silk wallpaper and the walls in a glazed abaca in order to give the room a subtle blush glow depending on the time of day to complete the serene atmosphere. The bespoke sofa in an emerald velvet was added for a pop of colour against the overall neutrality of the space.

The guest bedroom was covered in a gorgeous Rubelli fabric to add a sense of drama to a small space. Studio L designed the unfussy bespoke bed with a tactile cotton-linen fabric. To bring out the silver and gold lurex weft of the floral jacquard silk walls, Studio L mixed metals in a subtle way with polished nickel wall lights and ivory lacquer side tables with brass accents.
